National Portrait Gallery Triennial
Atwood was chosen by the National Portrait Gallery (Smithsonian Museum) to exhibit in their Outwin Boochever Triennial. The exhibition aims to advance American contemporary portraiture, and spans all media, including painting, drawing, sculpture, photography, printmaking, mixed media and installations.
International Photography Awards Winner
Atwood's second book, Kings & Queens in Their Castles, won First Place in the International Photography Awards (book category). Winners were exhibited nationwide including in New York and Los Angeles.

The Fence at Photovile Winner
Several of Atwood's photos exhibited at THE FENCE in New York, a summer-long photo exhibition with an audience of more than one million. Out of an astonishing number of submissions, the jury selected works that speak to the importance of ‘community’. Curated by PDN and United Photo Industries, THE FENCE was a public installation more than 1000 feet in length at Brooklyn Bridge Park, as well as a nighttime projection at PHOTOVILLE. PHOTOVILLE was a veritable village of freight containers transformed into temporary exhibition spaces on more than 60,000 square feet in the heart of Brooklyn Bridge Park.
Art Master's Exhibition in Monte Carlo, Monaco
Tom Atwood, David Lachapelle, Helmut Newton, Karl Lagerfeld, Henri Cartier-Bresson, Robert Mapplethorpe, Herb Ritts, Cindy Sherman, Horst P. Horst, Man Ray, Edward Steichen, Alfred Stieglitz, Robert Doisneau, Edward Weston, Joyce Tenneson, Brassaï, André Kertesz, Edouard Boubat, Jacques-Henri Lartigue, Lola & Manuel Alvarez Bravo, Doug Aitken, Hans Bellmer, Graciela Iturbide, Duane Michals, George Hurrell, Elliott Erwitt, Greg Gorman, Peter Lindbergh, Jock Sturges, Lauren Greenfield and Jean-Baptiste Mondino were among the photographers represented in the 2008 Art Masters exhibition in Monte Carlo. Among Atwood's images in the exhibition, titled Women in the Magic Mirror, was a portrait of Catwoman actress, Julie Newmar. Art by Picasso, Matisse, Chagall, Degas, Warhol, Cristo and other greats was also featured, as well as works from the Segantini, Engadin and Berry Museums. The show was held at the Salle D’Exposition du Quai Antoine, Affaires Culturelles de la Principauté in Monaco.

London's Worldwide Photography Gala Awards named Tom Atwood Photographer of the Year. Atwood also won first place in Portraiture, chosen from over three thousand entries from about 50 countries.

Atwood won first place in Portraiture in the Prix de la Photographie Paris competition. Chosen from thousands of entries from over 85 countries, winners from each major category were published internationally and exhibited in Paris at the 13Sévigné Gallery.
Art Takes Times Square
Work from Atwood's Kings & Queens in Their Castles exhibited at Times Square in a group exhibition witnessed by half a million people. A dozen of the most iconic billboards in Times Square were transformed into an immense, glittering display of art more than 23 stories tall at Broadway Plaza.
